You both had just been hanging out in the recreation center, Price on the couch and you sitting on a chair right by that couch. You were scrolling through your phone, while Price was reading the newspaper—usual old man activities. While scrolling through your social media feed, you didn’t even notice the way tears started to well up in your eyes until your vision got blurry and you felt a small, wet trail of a single tear roll down your cheek.

You’d sighed and pulled a pocket-sized tissue pack out out your pocket, pulling out a tissue and dabbing at your eyes, ridding them of the tears. Of course, the tears didn’t just stop there, they kept coming, so you kept wiping and dabbing at your eyes, hoping that they would go away soon. This was a fairly regular occurrence— for you.

Price caught sight of this and immediately looked worried. He stared at you for a moment as you wiped your eyes, wondering if he should speak up, and eventually had tentatively asked, “Are you okay, [c/n]?”

You looked over at him and pulled the tissue away from your face for a moment, “Yeah, why?” Your voice didn’t sound strained or hoarse like Price had expected, seeing as you were practically crying.

“You’re crying,” Price had pointed out, pointing to your eyes as if you couldn’t notice it, “Did something happen?”

You sat there, a bit dumbfounded, and Price took your silence as hesitation to tell him what was going on. “You can tell me what’s going on, [c/n]. I won’t judge you,” He’d reassured you softly, setting down his book and putting all of his attention on you.

Oh God. “Nothing happened,” You’d quickly assured him, “This is normal, don’t worry about it.”

“... What do you mean, ‘this is normal’?” Price asked, now confused as well as concerned, “You cry often, mate?”

“I mean, kind of?” You had replied, before sighing and clarifying, “My eyes just water up a lot. It’s not really crying.”

“Oh,” Price said dumbly, before nodding and giving you one last concerned look, “Right, then. Uh… sorry about that.”

“It’s okay,” You smiled at him, going back to dabbing at your eyes with a tissue, while he reluctantly went back to his book.

➥ he still offers to get you tissues and some water, worried by the amount of tears you’re producing, thinking you’re gonna get really dehydrated.

➥ makes sure you’re completely okay and that you’re not just making this all up to hide the fact that you’re actually crying.

➥ after that whole interaction, he doesn’t get as worried when your eyes randomly water up, and instead teases you about it.

➥ learns to know when you’re actually crying, just so that he can offer comfort when it’s appropriate, and tease you when it’s appropriate.

The two of you were hanging out in Ghost’s room, since his was cleaner than the both of your’s combined, and he was away on a mission. Soap laid down on Ghost’s bed while you were sitting on the edge of the same bed, the sheets and blankets wrinkled from you both moving around on the bed. Soap was scrolling through his phone while you sat opposite of him and read a book Price had recommended to you—in his usual old man pseudo-father fashion, he’d told you to spend less time on your phone and ‘read a damn book’—so you were doing just that.

It was when you’d just reached chapter six when your vision got blurry and you sighed, knowing what was happening already. It was just annoying, honestly, having to pull out your tissues every ten minutes because your stupid tear ducts couldn’t function properly. When you went to pull out the mini tissue pack you always carried with you—or so you thought—you were surprised to find that the familiar plastic rectangle of tissues were nowhere to be found in your pockets. You checked your back pockets, front pockets, and yet they weren’t in either.

You let out a small, frustrated sigh through your nose and got up from the bed, the movement making Soap look up and over at you.

“Hey, where are ye—blimey, are ye cryin’?” Soap questioned, his questioning tone quickly becoming concerned, “Are ye alright? It wasnae the book that made ye cry, aye?”

You looked back at Soap, sighing, wiping at your eyes with the sleeve of your shirt, “Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t even worry about it, it’s normal, I just need to go get some tissues.”

“What dae ye mean this is normal?” Soap asked, sitting up. I just want to grab tissues, man, You think, miserably before short explanation that yes, you’re okay, no, you’re not crying, your eyes are just watery—basically the same answer you give every who eventually asks about your little ‘quirk’.

“Ye sure ye’re alright?” Soap asked, just making sure you’re actually okay, “Ye’re definitely no’ crying?”

“Definitely not crying,” You confirmed, “Just watery eyes.”

“Alright, then,” Soap breathed out, relieved that you were okay, before getting up and asking, “Dae ye need some tissues, water, anythin’?”

“Just tissues,” You answered, walking towards the door, “I can get them—”

“Nah, nah, ye stay richt there!” Soap quickly said, somehow getting to the door before you despite him having been right in front of the bed moments earlier, “I’ll get it!”

You watched him run out the door at a speed comparable to the usain bolt and stayed there for a moment, just staring at the now opened door, before huffing out a small laugh and heading back to the bed and sitting down.

SIMON “GHOST” RILEY

➥ he doesn’t notice until you’re wiping at your eyes and huffing in frustration when tears keep coming.

➥ the first time it happened, he didn’t ask if you were alright verbally, but did shoulder nudge you and gave you a look that asks ‘are you okay?’

➥ when you nodded and continued wiping at your eyes, ghost gave you one last look before trusting that you were okay and continuing on with his day.

➥ he pretended he didn’t care but thought about it for a bit afterwards, especially if you guys are really close.

➥ he asked price if you tearing up is just a normal thing or if you were actually crying, and let himself relax when he was told that yes, your eyes just water up randomly.

➥ he’s naturally a very observant person and will be able to tell when you’re actually crying fairly quickly.

➥ he’ll still look you over to make sure you’re okay, of course, just to double check, but once he’s confirmed that your eyes are just getting watery again he’ll let himself relax.

➥ depending on how close you both are, he’ll carry around a pack of tissues for you.

You and Ghost were in a helicopter, another mission successful. It wasn’t the worst one you’d had—but it was far from easy to accomplish. You were reasonably tired after this mission, all the leftover adrenaline wearing off, making you slump a bit in your seat.

You were just about to close your eyes to rest them, when suddenly you realized how blurry your vision had gotten. You were confused for a moment before realizing—oh, right, that happens.

You sighed, knowing you didn’t bring your usual pack of tissues with you, thinking it would just take up useless space in the pockets of your tactical gear. You wiped your eyes with the gloves you’d been wearing, albeit they weren’t the best option but the sleeves of your shirt were far too short for you to use, the hem of your shirt was dirty, and while your gloves were dirty as well, the back of them weren’t nearly as filthy as the hem of your shirt.

As you wiped away with the back of your glove, Ghost noticed your watery eyes and nudged your shoulder with his own. You paused and pulled your hand away from your eye, giving him a questioning look. He didn’t say anything, but instead gave you a questioning look back, a look you assumed to be one that asked, ‘are you okay?’, judging by the way his eyes darted to your own very watery ones. You nodded, mouthing the words ‘I’m okay’, and he nodded back, going back to staring ahead of him.

Hours after you had gotten off the helicopter, you were walking by Price’s office, and couldn’t help but hear Ghost’s voice. Being the nosy person you are, you cautiously pressed your ear to the door.

“—don’t worry, it’s normal,” You heard Price reassuring Ghost, “I doubt they’d cry after a mission like that, anyway.”

“And they’ve told you it’s normal?” Ghost asked, just to confirm, “You know this for a fact?”

You didn’t stay long enough to hear the rest of the conversation, instead walking away and suppressing a smile at Ghost’s mildly worried tone.

➥ the first time he catches your eyes watering up, he gets pretty worried.

➥ he makes sure not to make a big deal out of it though, trying to be as considerate as possible, and instead quietly asks you if you’re okay.

➥ when you reassure him that you are and tell him your eyes are just naturally watery, he’s pretty relieved, and lets it go.

➥ he trusts that you told him the truth, and doesn’t question you again after that.

➥ around the fifth time it’d happened, he’d grown pretty used to it, so when you started tearing up walking back to the rendezvous point with him after a mission, he had a handkerchief ready for you.

You panted while you walked, trying to get your breathing under control. You’d done a lot of running today—while you were pretty fit, and could run perfectly fine, you didn’t particularly like running as fast as you can away from enemy soldiers while your teammates shot them down, leaving you praying that the bullets that tailed your feet didn’t hit you.

Eventually, you got your breath under control, but immediately afterwards, your eyes had started to water.

You sighed and were about to wipe at your eyes with your hands, before your hand was stopped mid air. You looked over at Gaz, who had caught your hand by the wrist and offered you a handkerchief with his free hand.

The handkerchief was fairly clean, and you grabbed it, muttering a small ‘thank you’ as you did. Gaz smiled at you and gave you a simple pat on the shoulder.

Once the two of you reached the rendezvous point, you handed him back the handkerchief, hoping that your grateful smile was enough to express your full gratitude.

I recently saw some play throughs of the game (since I can't figure out how to download it) and hated how submissive and defenceless the gamers made pc :(

I made a little scenario!

Somehow someway someone hits pc in the back of the head and they get amnesia, their personality changing from timid and soft spoken to bold and upfront.

After they've been released from the hospital, the LIs are shocked to find out the 180 of their personality!

A couple of days pass as everyone awkwardly tries to adjust to their stronger and more fierce personality, when suddenly, someone tries to mess with them/grope them or do something to them

In return? They swear at them in their mother language, cursing the person's family as they pull out a gun from their skirt's/pant's waistband, removing the safety, threatening to kill anyone who tries to mess with them again.

A few days after that, the same thing happens but this time, it's one of Whitney's lackeys/friends.

Sadly for them, PC doesn't hesitate and shoots them in the shoulder and stomach, before spitting on them and walking off, cigarette in mouth, korean gang lord style. (Imagine they look really cute/innocent yet their eyes have lost their shine, sharpening, with dark eyebags only making their eyes more intimidating, their patience finally depleted)

The whole point of the game is for pc to be hurt and assaulted, trying to survive the fucked up world they live in. Saying that there are different ways to play of course, you can make pc more defiant and bratty or submissive and meek. It all depends on how you want to make your pc act, I always go a more defiant route though

Whitney is confused by your sudden personality change but doesn't hate it, it does lead to more fights between the two of you though. He's scared you're going to attack him next but he also thinks it's incredibly hot.

Kylar is worried about your sudden change but of still loves you deeply. He was about to shoot the person with a dart but you were much quicker than him. He is immediately running over to make sure you're ok and not injured, unfazed by the injured person.

Robin is worried about your change and makes sure to keep a closer eye on you. He is horrified when you shoot the person, he has no idea what to do.

how did you learn coding?

I am pretty much entirely self taught as far as front end goes!

I started messing around with HTML and CSS with tumblr themes back in 2016-ish.

For javascript I looked at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/ for a lot of documentation + examples. And also used codepen a lot to kinda reverse engineer existing snippets of code.

After I got a good foundation of vanilla JS, I learned Vue for a little while and then moved on to React. The new react documentation is really good in my opinion so I definitely recommend reading that if you're interested in learning.

Most of my learning came from trial and error and working on projects that I was really excited about. I used to be so proud of findtags (the original version) which was in jquery...

The react version is miles ahead of it. And even then, the theme builder is also way ahead of findtags. I learned way more between those two projects than reading documentation alone!

22. do you ever worry about public reaction to what you’re writing? how do you get past that?

i won't lie yeah that's a fear that sneaks up on me quite a bit with my multichapter fics. with oneshots since they're done in one sitting i don't care as much. with the longer ones though, seeing how people are reacting to the current part while i'm still working on the next one does get to me sometimes.

this is particularly present with lies of omission, because the ending i have planned is. hm... unusual, i suppose. don't think i've seen a single other fic take a similar approach to things. soooo no idea how people are gonna take it. but honestly considering that i opened the fic by saying that it was more self-indulgent than my usual fare... i did warn you all.

i just need to remember that i am doing this for fun, and i am doing this for me, and also i haven't even gotten hate on my fics before so i really do not have a reason to be stressing about it. and also if i tried to change how an ongoing story is going based off audience reception it's 100% gonna end up being a worse, more poorly paced story than whatever the original plan was.

Wheeewww what a week!! I started to learn React and lemme tell you...it hasn't been easy due to my own silliness . I had already tried to learn it earlier last year and I thought I had still retained most of the concepts I needed to start beginners' tutorials ( ignore the gross overestimation of my capabilities) . Boy was I wrong......

So after watching hundreds of tutorials (okay maybe just three hehe.....), I decided to relearn React. Which was really the best thing to do, because I feel clearer in my head now (*ᵕᴗᵕ)⁾⁾.

While I was stressing with React, I decied to learn HTML Canvas as a way to cool off, because aside scrolling through Pinterest, I have zero relaxing hobbies; they're all so active! Okay that's a lie, I read. I'm currently reading David Copperfield but I've got to a particularly sad part and I really can't continue ಥ﹏ಥ. So HTML Canvas came in to save the day. It's really really fun and I love love love bouncing balls.

I followed a YT tutorial by Chris Courses. He has a playlist on the topic which is sooo useful. 10/10 will recommend!

Oh yes, before I forget, here is the link to the React tutorial I'm currently following.The course is on Scrimba but I preferred to follow it locally. I'm old school like that.

The DM saga: A retrospective

This wouldn’t be a Quinton Reviews blog if we didn’t at least mention the event that put him in the radar of many. It all started with one tweet:

Replying to herself Sarah would tweet this message came from a male YouTuber that would mention in video when she wasn’t replying to his messages.

Then Lindsay Ellis adds another six messages from the same guy.

Everyone suspects Quinton. Those are the components of this saga everybody knows.

Three years later, some people still say Quinton's involvement is merely a rumour and some even try to spin it as Quinton being the victim. Sounds familiar.

Here are some facts that only sickos knew about.

Sarah mentioned the original message was from a male YouTuber that mentioned in his videos when she didn't reply his messages.

At 56:35, Quinton mentions that he couldn't reach Sarah (who played Irma in a previous video reading Garfield strips).

Lindsay's reply contains three pairs of messages. Two of those pairs line up with times Quinton was in Anaheim.

July 2019: VidCon 2019. Quinton attends a panel held by Ellis, tags her in a tweet.

February 2020: Quinton goes on a trip to meet with friends and use his soon to expire Disney Land annual pass.

There were also attempts by forensic photo editing aficionados to prove it was Quinton.

If these tweets among others didn't pick up more traction at the time it was because the moment it became very obvious it wasn't MovieBob then people started to say it wasn't their place to speculate since the male YouTuber hadn't been named directly.

You can probably figure Quinton wasn't going to react directly, but in very Quinton fashion he had to make his feelings known.

But someone just so happened to notice and subtweet.

Quinton disappears of the Internet for a week, while most people either already know it was him or are doing mental gymnastics to say it suddenly doesn't matter.

It could have ended right there, but it didn't. Some context will be necessary. Quinton has two Discord servers: one of his Patreon (Quinton's Quarantine Quew), where all the parasocial talk comes from, and Quanto Analysis, from where he runs his channel with his friends and closest allies (until this controversy you only needed six dollars to enter). Someone leaked the latter in a html file for all the comments around the DM saga.

He would go to say other things like how the Mumkey Jones nontroversy prevented him from reaching 1M, mock Ellis by saying "stop me if I ever make a long video after I get cancelled", that he needs to suffer to make 'good art', complaining about his weight or expressing surprise when his channel broke the free fall it was in to make the way to the current state of his channel.

Now and then people accused Quinton of harassment and even labelled him worse things. None were true, he is just a cringelord that still acts like he is in high school. For that very reason, I took enough issue to write about the Flowergothic saga and revisit this one. Because I know Quinton incapable of being a creep, but he is one heavy prick who has bent the truth before and would do again.

Art fight strats that are SAVING me this year!

In the first/final days of the fight (or if you know you're gonna be without wifi), convert the OCs pages in your hitlist to HTML and download them using an extension. This way, you can access their pages even offline!

Keep refs of OCs, links to their pages, and their ID numbers on a private Discord text channel, then react with a check mark whenever their attack is done!

Only attack a few OCs at a time. When that list is done, then you add more!

TAKE BREAKS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! You don't have to draw every day! If you don't feel like drawing but still want to he productive, you can work on your character descriptions or do something else! A fun downtime activity I love is making Pinterest boards and Spotify playlists for my OCs :>

Accept that a mere headshot, half-body, or background are all ay okay! Not all your art will be fullbody scenic masterpieces, but submitting any art is better than no art at all!

This one I especially regret not doing in previous years! In the final few days of the fight when there's no motivation and/or time left for anyone, submit ALL of your WIPs! It's against the rules to work on attacks before any year's fight, so you won't be able to use those WIPs next year. So throw in the towel and submit any sketches or unfinished art you have to get those final few points! If you REALLY want to finish ALL of your attacks but don't have the time, you can send the finished art to the artists after the fight!

And these are just personal preferences that I do with my schedule

I do all my regular attacks during the week and my revenges on the weekends! That way I don't feel pressured to ONLY do revenge all the time

I will only do mass attacks once all my friends/mutuals/idols I REALLY wanted to attack are done so I don't burn out before getting to my most important people

A big problem for me personally is I always feel like I need background noise while I draw, but Im getting REALLY tired of my Youtube options. So I look up Spotify playlists with the vibe I'm going for during an attack and listen to those! I've already found a lot of new amazing songs this way!

The trailers for Abigail, the latest from the Radio Silence team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, promised a simple, straightforward horror/comedy that inverted the premise of their prior film Ready or Not (a lone female character faces off against a group of people inside a mansion, but this time, she's the villain), and that's exactly what the film delivered. Probably the biggest problem I had with this movie is that the trailers spoiled way too many of its wild plot turns, not least of all the central hook that the little girl at the center of the film is actually a vampire, which the film itself doesn't reveal until nearly halfway in -- but then again, I was having way too good a time with this movie to really care all that much. I came for blood and some grim laughs, and I got them, courtesy of some standout performances and filmmakers who know exactly how to take really gory violence and make it more fun than gross. If you like your horror movies bloody, this is certainly one to check out.

Our protagonists are a group of criminals who have been recruited by a man named Lambert to kidnap Abigail, the 12-year-old daughter of a very wealthy man, after she gets home from ballet practice and hold her ransom for $50 million. However, once they've taken her to their safehouse, a rustic mansion deep in the woods, strange occurrences start happening around them, and one by one, they start turning up brutally murdered. Before long, they learn two things. First, Abigail's rich father is actually Kristof Lazar, a notorious crime boss who has a brutal and fearsome assassin named Valdez on his payroll who may well have been sent to take out these hoodlums. Second, and more importantly, Abigail is herself Valdez -- and a vampire. A very pissed-off vampire who quickly gets loose and goes to war against her captors, using all her vampiric powers against them.

In a manner not unlike From Dusk Till Dawn, the film starts as a slow-burn crime thriller with few hints as to what Abigail truly is, instead focusing on fleshing out our main characters, a motley crew of entertaining crooks who have no idea what they're getting into. Our protagonists may not be a particularly sympathetic bunch (being kidnappers and all), but all of them are great characters who are very fun to watch, reacting as many of us would to seeing what happens in the latter half of the film and anchoring the mayhem in something human. Melissa Barrera makes for a likable and compelling lead as the token good one/telegraphed final girl Joey (not her real name; they all use codenames taken from members of the Rat Pack), Kathryn Newton was hilarious and got some of the biggest moments in the film as the rich kid hacker Sammy, and Giancarlo Esposito made the most of his limited screen time as their mysterious leader Lambert, but the real standout among the protagonists was Dan Stevens as Frank, a corrupt ex-cop who becomes the de facto leader of the group and takes charge once the carnage begins only to turn out to have some skeletons in his closet. This was a group of people who all felt like fully fleshed-out, three-dimensional characters who I wanted to see either succeed or, in some cases, get what they had coming to them, even if the words "let's split up" were used a bit too often during the third act.

The true MVP among the cast, though, was Alisha Weir as Abigail. In the first act, she's excellent at playing an innocent-seeming little girl -- with emphasis on "playing", as every so often she lets her precocious mask slip just enough to let both her caretaker Joey and the audience know that she knows a lot more than she's letting on. After the reveal, she turns into a hell of a villain, a potty-mouthed psycho who's absolutely relishing getting to murder her captors, operating with glee as she fights them and continuing to them even when they think they have the upper hand. The film makes great use of the fact that Abigail is also a ballerina, not just in her outfit but also in how the action and chase sequences give Weir (who has a background in musical theater) ample opportunity to show off her dance skills, which has the effect of framing Abigail as the antithesis of her captors: violent as hell, but also elegant and graceful in a way that lets you know that she's probably been doing this for a very long time. I can see Weir going places in the future, if her performance here is any indication.

When it comes to scares, this film is a mess of gore, inflicted on both Abigail and her captors. The first act keeps us in the dark as to what's really going on, and did a good job building tension as Abigail lurks in the shadows and the characters find the dead and mutilated bodies of her victims, not knowing what's really happening. There are decapitations, a man having half his face torn off, lots of bites, and more than one instance of somebody exploding into a mess of gore (a gag that, going by how they used it in Ready or Not, Radio Silence seem to be pretty big fans of). There's a creepy sequence of somebody getting psychically possessed by Abigail that spices up the proceedings with a different kind of horror, especially as the performance of the actor playing the victim shifts. The climax was action-packed and filled with vampire mayhem, and while I thought the story was kinda spinning its wheels at this point, the film was still too much fun for me to really fault it too much. At this point, Radio Silence has become a brand I trust when it comes to delivering popcorn horror experiences that aren't that deep, but are still very fun, enjoyable times at either the multiplex or in front of your TV.

The Bottom Line

I came to see a ballerina vampire kick people's asses for nearly two hours, and that's exactly what I got. Abigail is a rock-solid, rock-em-sock-em good time of a horror/comedy buoyed by a great cast and directors who know how to entertain. If you don't mind lots of blood, check it out.

Frontend Mentor Social Media Dashboard - Log # 8

Today I learned that React likes to give me trouble when trying to get everything on the screen to fill the entire screen, especially vertically. Again, I spent hours on this problem, but I finally solved it by extensive googling. Basically, the root element in the index.html file of the React project doesn't have the height property of 100%, which will result in a page that looks like this:

You can see that suddenly there's dark blue (this is the colour I have by default for dark mode), and that's where the root element ends. And you can also see, that this doesn't look good. So after hours to removing all possible margins in my containers, a StackOverflow answer provided the code I needed;

Essentially, force the root, html, and body to be the full height of the page, regardless whether there are elements there or not. So with this now in place, there's no empty space, and it works for both modes:

I don't remember having these troubles before, but I'm glad I know why the problem was happening, and now I know how to solve it if it ever happens again.
